The most basic difference between PR and advertising is that advertising space is paid for media, whereas PR results is earned media, often in the form of press releases and pitches between a journalist and PR.
Both advertising and PR help brands communicate with target audiences in order to increase visibility and awareness.
This means a PR will introduce your brand and expertise to a journalist, to encourage them to write a story that features you, and it then appears in the editorial section of the magazine, rather than the “paid media” section where advertising placements appear.
This adds credibility, because your brand was independently chosen and approved by a journalist, rather than purchased and placed in the advertising section.
